August 31st, 2009Universitet (eng. University) metro station is located in Stare Misto neighborhood (Shevchenkivskyy district). Located under Taras Shevchenko Blvd. Station was opened in 1960, has only one entrance at Shevchenko Blvd. Station is known like one of the most interesting example of classic architectural style in Kiev metro. Design of station is classic and similar with palaces design – orange marble on walls, classic architecture style. Artworks on station – busts of big Ukrainian poetries, writers, academics, philosophies like Taras Shevchenko, Grygory Skovoroda and other. Station is deep and as escalator. Station is not so congested, because of parks, which are located here. Station is located in the luxury Downtown area. Nearby are located – Botanical Garden im. Fomina, Volodymyr temple, National University im. Shevchenko, Romanian, Belarusian, Dutch, Algerian, Slovakian, Swedish, Austrian, German, Jordanian, Belgian and Argentinean embassy, Kosenko and Medical museums. From the station are running trolleybuses and “marshrutkas” (mini-buses) to Nyvky, Solomianka and Downtown. Trolleybuses: 8, 17. Next station, Teatralna (eng. Theatre Area) has interchange with Zoloti Vorota station (Green line), station is located in Stare Misto neighborhood (Shevchenkivskyy municipality). Located under Hmelnitskogo St. Station was opened in 1987 and was formerly named “Leninska”. Station is deep, has escalator. Design of station is severe; walls are covered by dark red and white marble. Artworks – panel with Lenin and citations from his works. On Teatralna, there are two entrances on Hmelnitskogo and Pushkinska streets. Station is congested because of subway interchange. Station is located right in the Downtown area. Nearby are located – Theatre of Russian drama, Shevcehnko, Tichina museums, Literature Museum, CUM (Central Universal Market), Columbian and Peru embassy. From the station are running buses and “marshrutkas” (mini-buses) to Borshchagivka, Bilychy, Solomianka and Downtown. Buses: 24, 38. Mini buses: 230, 429, 433.
Hreshchatyk (eng. Baptize Guy) station has interchange with Maidan Nezalezhnosti station (Blue line), station is located in the very heart of city, just under the main street of city – Hreshchatyk Street. Station has 3 entrances – first (main entrance) on Hreshchatyk Street, second on Gorodetskogo St and last on Instytutska St. Hreshchatyk station was opened in 1960. Design of station is simple – station is covered by white marble, has big columns with tile artworks with flowers. Station is deep, has escalator. Station is congested because of subway interchange. Nearby are located – Small dramatic Theatre, Theatre of Ukrainian drama, International center of culture and art, Turkmen and Japanese embassy, Cinema “Kinopalats”, “Ukraina”, Paint art museum, Kyiv central municipality. From the station are running buses to Borshchagivka, Bilychy and Pechersk. Buses: 24.
Next station, Arsenalna (eng. Arsenal), is located between elite Lipki neighborhood and Pechersk, old heart of city (Pecherskyy municipality). Located under Arsenalna Sq. Station was opened in 1960 and today it is one of the deepest subway stations in the world (109 meters under the surface!); has escalator. Design of station is ascetic – all walls are covered with white tile, without artworks. Station has one entrance at Arsenalna Sq. Nearby are located – Mariinskyy park, one of the most beautiful parks of city, Mariinskyy palace, Green theatre, Ukrainian Parlament, Children’s palace, Askoldova Mogyla park, “Askoldova Mogyla” park, Chinese, Moldavian, Latvian, Brazilian, Tatarstan and Chili embassy, “Arsenal” plant. From the station are running buses, trolleybuses and “marshrutkas” (mini-buses) to Vydubychi, Darnytsya, Podil and Downtown. Buses: 24, 55, 62. Trolleybuses: 38. Mini buses: 406, 470, 520, 444, 238.
Dnipro (eng. Days About, exactly called because of Dnipro river)station is located on the Dnipro quay, in Pecherskyy municipality. This station is on surface, Dnipro is the last station on the Right Bank, which is on this line. Station was opened in 1960. Design of station is simple, platforms on station are located on the right, station doesn’t has any artworks. Station has only one entrance to the Naberezhne Shosse. Station is one of the most not congested stations in Kyiv, because here are located only high, woody hills of Right bank and Dnipro River, where you can only fish, but not swim. Nearby are located – “Rybalka” market, “Metro Dnipro” pier, Metro bridge, which was opened in early 60-ies. From the station are running buses, trams and “marshrutkas” (mini-buses) to Podil, Bereznyaky, Darnytsya and Chervonyy Hutir. Buses: 51. Mini buses: 446, 500. Trams: 5.
Next station, Hidropark (eng. Hydro Park (Water Park)) is located on Venetsianskyy Island (also called Hidropark Island), in Dniprovskyy municipality. Station is on surface. Station was opened in 1965, located by the Brovarskyy Ave. Hidropark has three entrances on the same avenue. Located in huge park, that takes all territory of island – there are no any residential houses nearby. But still, at summer, station can be congested, because of nice beaches, that are located on island. At summertime, this place is favorite for all citizens – nearby are located lot of beaches, like Hidropark, Truhaniv and Dolobetskyy island beaches. All of these islands are connected by pedestrian bridges. Beaches are however wild, or civic, full of people, or empty, there is even nude beach. Station doesn’t has any interchange with other public transport, so why, if you what to visit Kyiv beaches, you need to take only subway of to visit beautiful beaches of Hidropark.
Livoberezhna (eng. Left Bank) station is the first station on Red line, which is located on Left Bank. Station is located on surface. This and all next stations till terminus are congested because of huge residential areas, which are situated here. Station was opened in 1965 and is placed between Mykilska Slobidka and Livoberezhnyy Massiv neighborhoods (Dniprovskyy municipality). Station is located on Brovarskyy Ave, near the big trade place, has two entrances. Nearby are located – International Exhibition Center, Left Bank Central Post Office, Theatre of Drama and Comedy, two supermarkets, Cinema “Multiplex Comod”, five banks. From the station are running buses and “marshrutkas” (mini-buses) to Rusanivka, Bereznyaky, Voskresenka, Raiduzhnyy Masiv and Downtown. Buses: 42, 70, 87, 117, 108, 46. Mini buses: 215, 246, 216, 222, 460, 578, 579, 580. Intercity mini buses: 324. Intercity buses: a3, c13.
Next station, Darnytsa (eng. Gift –nytsa), is also located in big trade place, between Sotsmistechko and Komsomolskyy Masiv neighborhoods (Dniprovskyy district). Station is on surface, has three entrances, one of them was opened in 2000-ies. Darnytsa is located by Brovarskyy Ave. Station was opened in 1965, near the station is placed the oldest metro depot “Darnytsa”, that serves Red line. Nearby are located – Peremoga (Victory) park, the biggest market in city for children’s (Dytyachyy rynok). Also, here are located big residential areas with 9-20 floor apartments. From the station are running buses, trolleybuses and “marshrutkas” (mini-buses) to Troeshchyna, Voskresenka , Poznyaky, and Harkivskyy Masiv. Trolleybuses: 46, 46k (47). Buses: 46, 70. Mini buses: 221, 225, 445, 476, 504, 589, 190, 405, 544, 579, 600.
Chernivgivska (eng. Black -ivska, exactly from Chernigov city)station is located between Komsomolskyy Masiv, Lisovyy Masiv and Avariyne Mistechko suburbs (Dniprovskyy municipality). Station was opened in 1968, formerly called “Komsomolska”. Station is located on surface, on Brovarskyy Ave. and under the bridge on Bratislavska St, on the Novorossiyska Sq. Station has three entrances. Nearby are located – Park “Kioto”, Brovarsky Park of Leisure, Darnytsa Bus station, Theatre of Dolls. Station is congested because of big public transportation hub, which is located nearby this station. From the station are running buses, trams and “marshrutkas” (mini-buses) to Troeshchyna, Voskresenka, Bereznyaky, Rusanivka, Holosiiv, Teremky and Darnytsya. Trams: 23, 28, 33, 35, 22. Buses: 6, 63. Mini buses: 213, 236, 414, 416, 418, 419, 423, 434, 473, 516, 524, 527, 528, 529, 590, 553. The last station on the Red Line, Lisova (eng. Woods), is also on surface. Placed in the Lisovyy Massiv suburb (Desnianskyy municipality). Station was opened in 1979, formerly called “Pionerska”, located on surface. Station is located on the Brovarskyy Ave, on the East boundary of city. Lisova has two entrances; one of them was opened in 2000-ies. Nearby are located – Darynok (big market, that is roofed), park “Kioto”, Ukrainian studio of animation films, Brovarskyy forest. From the station are running buses, trolleybuses and “marshrutkas” (mini-buses) to Troeshchyna, Lisovyy Masyv, Voskresenka and Bykivnya. From this station also are running intercity buses to towns’ satellites of Kiev – Brovary and countryside.
